National Combat SAMBO Championship held in Ecuador

Ecuador's National Combat SAMBO Championship 2026 took place at the Federador Theatre in Guayaquil. The tournament formed part of Ecuadorian athletes' preparation for the upcoming World SAMBO Championships in Uzbekistan.

According to the tournament's organizing committee, more than 40 sambists took part, representing the provinces of Guayas, Santa Elena, Pichincha, and Azuay. The championship served as a platform for athlete preparation, performance assessment, and competitive experience – an important step on the road to international competition.

“A defining feature of the championship was that all bouts were held exclusively in the Combat SAMBO discipline. This allowed participants to test and develop their technical and tactical skills under conditions closely matching the demands of this discipline,” the Ecuadorian SAMBO Clubs Association said in a statement.

The tournament program included bouts across several age categories, from cadets and juniors to adults, contributing to the development and preparation of the next generation of Ecuadorian sambists.

“Holding tournaments of this kind is part of the national federation's systematic work to keep athletes competitively active, raise their level, and create conditions for identifying strengths and areas for growth ahead of upcoming international competitions,” the championship organizers emphasized.
