Rights and responsibilities of Athletes

Responsibilities: To be knowledgeable of and comply with all applicable Anti-Doping policies and rules.

This means you must:

  • Be available for testing.
  • Inform medical personnel of your obligation not to use prohibited substances and prohibited methods and taking responsibility to ensure that any medical treatment does not violate Anti-Doping policies and rules. Check all medication and make sure it does not contain a banned substance before you take it. Ask for help if you are unsure.
  • To disclose to your National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO) and FIAS any decision made by an Anti-Doping Organization (ADO) that is not a Code Signatory relating to committing an Anti-Doping rule violation (ADRV) within the previous ten years.
  • To take responsibility for what you ingest and use. Do not forget -your body, your responsibility.
  • Cooperate with Anti-Doping Organisation (ADOs) investigating any Anti-Doping Rules Violation (ADRVs) when you are asked.
  • Disclose an identity of your athlete support personnel (coach, physiotherapist, doctor) to any ADO with authority over you in case of any wrongdoing.
  • Take the opportunity to be educated on Anti-Doping matters either through FIAS or your National Anti-Doping Organization.
  • Have conversations within your sporting environment on Anti-Doping and encourage regular engagement in clean sport activities and events.
  • Familiarise yourself with the universal rights available to athletes within Anti-Doping, which are set out in the WADA Athletes’ Anti-Doping Rights Act.

Rights and responsibilities of Athlete Support Personnel’s and Other Persons

The World Anti-Doping Code states the roles and responsibilities that Athlete Support Personnel (ASP) have in relation to Anti-Doping.

This means you must:

  • Know and comply with the Anti-Doping Rules, policies and practices that apply to you as well as those that apply to the athletes you support
  • Co-operate with the testing programme for athletes
  • Use your influence on athletes positively to foster clean sport values and behaviours
  • Tell FIAS and your National SAMBO Federation if you have committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation in the last 10 years
  • Co-operate with any doping investigation when asked to do so
  • Not use or possess any prohibited substance or prohibited method without a valid and justifiable reason
  • Take the opportunity to be educated on Anti-Doping matters either through FIAS or your National Anti-Doping Organization
  • Have conversations within your sporting environment on Anti-Doping and encourage regular engagement in clean sport activities and events
  • Familiarise yourself with the universal rights available to athletes within Anti-Doping, which are set out in the WADA Athletes’ Anti-Doping Rights Act
