Tashkent to Host the Jubilee 50th World SAMBO Championships

From 6 to 8 November, the capital of Uzbekistan will become the world capital of SAMBO. Tashkent will host one of the year's major sporting events, the jubilee 50th World SAMBO Championships, bringing together the best athletes on the planet. Representatives of more than 90 countries will compete for medals.

The guests of honor will be SAMBO legends: multiple world champions from different countries, including SAMBO world ambassadors Fedor Emelianenko and Islam Makhachev.

“The 50th World Championships in Tashkent promise to be a vibrant celebration of sport, showcasing the strength, technique, inclusivity and rich traditions of SAMBO at the highest international level. We have invited the legends of our sport, both active and retired multiple world champions. They will take part in the opening ceremony and other important events. We expect around 25 renowned SAMBO athletes, including Fedor Emelianenko and Islam Makhachev, to join us and leave their mark not only on the history of world SAMBO, but on the history of this 50th Championships,” said Vasily Shestakov, President of the International SAMBO Federation (FIAS).

The competition will take place at the modern Game Sports Arena in Tashkent's Olympic Village. The program features three disciplines for men and women: Sport SAMBO, Combat SAMBO and Blind SAMBO (class SVI1, totally blind athletes). Over three days, 33 sets of medals will be awarded.

“For the first time in FIAS history, the World Championships program includes Blind SAMBO competitions among women. This is a landmark event that underlines our commitment to inclusivity and the global development of SAMBO. We are convinced that every athlete deserves the chance to compete at the highest level, so we are creating even more opportunities for the development of Blind SAMBO. These athletes have earned them through their dedication and talent,” Vasily Shestakov added.

As a reminder, in 2025 the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) granted FIAS the status of IPC Recognized International Federation. The recognition reflects the federation's commitment to developing SAMBO as an inclusive sport for blind and visually impaired athletes.

The total prize fund of the jubilee 2026 World SAMBO Championships is USD 363,000:

- Gold medalists: USD 4,000

- Silver medalists: USD 3,000

- Bronze medalists: USD 2,000 each
