Duró Memorial Open Beach SAMBO Tournament Held in Budapest
On July 27, the Hungarian SAMBO Federation hosted its annual Open Beach SAMBO tournament at the popular Miamor Club on the banks of the Danube River in Budapest. The competition has been held nearly every year since 2014 and remains one of the region’s longest-running Beach SAMBO events. This year’s tournament was once again dedicated to the memory of Duró István, a former Hungarian SAMBO athlete.
A total of 39 matches were contested among athletes aged 14 and above. The event drew a mix of Hungarian competitors and international athletes living and training in Hungary, adding to the tournament’s international spirit.

“There’s always a certain risk when organizing an outdoor competition – the weather can be unpredictable,” said Imre Papp, President of the Hungarian SAMBO Federation. “But despite the forecasts, we were fortunate – or perhaps the heavens were on our side – and everything went smoothly. The level of the tournament continues to rise each year, and we hope to welcome more federations in the future. The Moldovan athletes, in particular, showed excellent preparation.”
According to organizers, the feedback from athletes and spectators was overwhelmingly positive. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the matches were conducted in a spirit of openness and sportsmanship – qualities that continue to define the SAMBO community.
