East Java SAMBO Championship in Surabaya serves as test event for PORPROV 2027

The “Surabaya Rising Champion” SAMBO Championship of Indonesia’s East Java province took place at the GOR Remaja sports complex in Surabaya. The tournament was a preparatory stage and test event ahead of PORPROV 2027, the East Java provincial multi-sport games scheduled for June-July 2027.

The competition was organized as part of the development program of the East Java branch of the SAMBO Federation of Indonesia. It brought together 98 athletes from 20 regencies and cities. According to the organizing committee, the championship gave athletes competitive experience and a chance to assess their readiness for next year’s regional competitions.

The event also allowed organizers, coaches and referees to review how preparations for PORPROV 2027 are progressing. The SAMBO competitions at the Games, which will be held in Surabaya, are scheduled for June 2027.

“The participation of 20 regencies and cities brought together athletes from across East Java, strengthening ties between local SAMBO organizations and supporting the further development of the sport in the province. Through tournaments such as ‘Surabaya Rising Champion’, the East Java branch of the SAMBO Federation of Indonesia aims to widen participation, raise the standard of competition and build a stronger foundation for the long-term development of the sport,” said Randika Asiani W, M.Pd, Secretary General of the East Java branch of the SAMBO Federation of Indonesia.
